Art Advantage Wood Palette with 12 Brushes

Art Advantage Wood Palette with 12 Brushesyou get what you pay for. the palette is small and very inferior thin plywood. the brushes have the mange and worse. they actually disintegrate as you try to fluff the so called bristles. the hairs fall out and i haven't even dared use them with paint yet.

This is a great gift for a youngster starting out on the fun of painting. Too small really for adult use but well worth the money!

Disappointed in the quality of the brush material. Looked to be capable of holding a fine point but in use, won't do so.

I guess thats what I get for being cheap. I get poor quality brushes. These are horrible horrible horrible. The bristles are way stiff...VERY cheaply made. Painting with them is like painting with a bunch of wood splints. Was going to throw them out at the first touch to the paper but my little sister wanted them so I gave them to her instead, but I highly doubt even she will want to use them.

I think this is a good deal and if you paint like me, you like lots of brushes of all price values, shapes and sizes available when you paint. I use these cheaper brushes to apply mask when I'm doing watercolor and for any other artsie task when I'm painting that might destroy a good brush. I feel at these cheaper prices, I can save my good brushes and use one of these and if it gets destroyed, it's cheap enough to be disposable!

I don't use the palette as a palette, I intend to paint a picture on it. So between the cost of the brushes and the palette, if you take them individually, they are very reasonably priced!!

But just a word of warning...you do get what you pay for and anyone expecting high quality brushes and a perfect palette at this price is dreaming! But they do serve a purpose!

4-in-1 Flipping Tabletop Easel

4-in-1 Flipping Tabletop EaselBought this as a gift for 18 month old daughter; Unlike other toys I think she'll enjoy this easel for years to come. 3 ways to draw crayon, chalk or pen (minus 1 star for not including any in the box). Nice design integrates roll of paper.

We love the easel and have enjoyed writing on the dry erase board.

The only problem is then the markers go on the wood it does not wash off and leaves it marked up.

I was so excited getting this for my 2 girls that are 5 & 7. They love crafts. Anything to do with drawing, coloring, etc. But, the dry erase portion of this item doesn't come clean well at all. The first time they drew on it with the Dry Erase markers, it hardly wiped off. They lost interest in it pretty quickly after that. I paid only $28.00 for it on sale.. and am still a bit disappointed with my purchase.

The price was right and the quality of the product is sturdy, easy to put together. There could be a place for the paper to be attached to the easel other than the magnets, they are not very strong and a place for the paper to be attached when not using. Also there could be some protective pads for the bottom of the easel so as not to mar the table surface.

Ordering from Amazon.com was GREAT and I will definately use them again. Thanx for a great experience!

Royal Brush Langnickel Sorrento Tabletop Easel

Royal Brush Langnickel Sorrento Tabletop EaselOkay, so the fit and finish isn't 5-star. In fact, the final assembly deserves only one star, but the basic design and construction are sound.

The unit I received was constructed of clear-grained wood no knots and was lightly finished with some sort of oil. Unfortunately, it was more than just a little rickety. So, the way I figured it, I could either return it and spend four-times as much on another model, or I could give this one a little TLC.

Long story short, I disassembled it, did a little sanding and refinishing, and glued it all back together. Now it's beautiful, rock solid, and should last a lifetime.

If you're willing to invest an hour of time, this is a diamond in the rough and a fantastic value. Two BIG thumbs up!

This easel is perfect. It is steady to paint on with the square base and everything. It is a solid product for an amazing price. You can tell its not high quality as sometimes the joints are a little loose. But definitely worth the price. I would buy it again.

Easel looks nice and looks like it will work well for what it is designed for.

Easel arrived missing hardware for lower leg attachment. I had to purchase wing nuts for the lower bolts.

Attachment tabs for front leg to attach to the base are just glued into the base. One tab was already completely loose and I was able to pull the other free with little effort. I had to repair using glue and I added a finishing nail to reattach the tabs to the base.

I bought this easel to hold a car show display sign. It is very well made and will suit my purpose exactly. I was in need of a holder for a 24" sign. They are many on the market but for the price, this unit was the right choice.

I bought 2 of these easels and really like them. The problem is they are poorly packaged. The first one arrived with the frame unglued from the bottom base. The second one came with a damaged box, loose screws and missing nuts, and obvious signs that it had been bounding around inside the box. I really like the design of these easels, but the packaging needs to be improved so that they arrive in one piece.

Logan 2000: Push Style Handheld Mat Cutter

Logan 2000: Push Style Handheld Mat CutterI bought this at a local art supply store. It produces very nice results but is physically taxing to use. My thumb is still numb as I'm writing this review. The blade of this cutter swings down when you push the indent in the black plastic with your thumb. There is no way to lock the blade down and there is a hidden spring inside always trying to push it back up. At first I used a reasonable amount of pressure and, even though I didn't feel the blade swinging up, apparently the blade kept swinging up just enough to not cut through sections of the mat board. So I have to really jam down hard with my thumb to make sure it doesn't miss any sections, and thus I ended up with a numb thumb after only a couple of mats. I'm cutting 1.25mm thick matboard that's like thick cardstock.

The other option is to adjust the blade depth so you're cutting deeper into the sacrificial mat below the one you actually want to cut. That way if the blade pushes up a bit it might not matter. But then you're cutting through more material and the tool becomes harder to push. Either way, you're exerting a lot of pressure and it's taxing on fingers and wrists.

So I went to the hardware store and found some #3 machine screws that fit the two pre-drilled holes to either side of the cutting blade. I added small washers and wrapped some thick fishing line I had laying around once under the washer, tightened it down, then ran the line around the black plastic such that pulling it tight pulled the blade down. Screwing the line down on the other side keeps the blade pulled down and the cutter is much easier to use. I still wouldn't say it's like butter as another reviewer said, but it doesn't hurt my thumb.

With the blade locked down it's harder to get the blade in to the matboard at the start of the cut since you can't have your tool pushed against the guide and then swing the blade down. Instead, with the line to be cut horizontal in front of me, I place the tip of the blade on the line to be cut and about 2mm to the right of the end of the line to be cut, then push it into the paper keeping the bottom of the cutter as level with the paper as possible until the bottom of the cutter rests on the paper. After the cutter is in the paper I place a straight edge guide against the lower edge of the cutter, then slide the cutter along the straight edge as normal. Sometimes the corners end up not quite as perfect as when you swing the blade into them, but it's hard to tell the difference.

The other thing I do to make things easier is clamp the straight edge guide to the table using a big padded Irwin clamp like Irwin Industrial Tools 512QCN Next Generation 12-Inch Clamp and Spreader. That way I don't have to push down hard on the guide to keep it from moving. I'm using a piece of wood as a guide it's actually a big paint stirring stick about 1/4" thick. If I had the official Logan guide with rubber bottom maybe I wouldn't need to use the clamp trick, but the wood slides fairly easily. The instructions also suggest gluing sandpaper to the bottom of your guide to keep it from sliding, but I didn't want to do that since I don't cut mats often.

This tool uses special blades that won't fit anything else. They are similar in size and shape to "safety razor" blades except they don't have the lip of metal along one side. However, Logan charges about 3 times as much for their blades ($19.95 for Logan vs $6.95 for 100 safety razor blades).

Overall I would recommend trying to find a similar tool with a blade that swings down and then locks in place without needing to be held down. I also feel like a tool that you pulled instead of pushed might be easier to use. When I used to cut mats by hand and later with a home-made tool, I always pulled the blade and I felt like there was more control that way and maybe less arm strain. Although the instructions that come with this push cutter show you can use it left handed by pulling it, it seems like it would be much harder to keep the blade held down. So if you prefer to cut left-handed, I don't think this cutter would be easy to use unless you lock the blade down.

This product is a must-have for anyone considering making their own mats. I'd advice getting the Logan cutting board too, as the tool is a but difficult to use on its own. However, if you have a good ruler and a steady hand it works great without! Very pleased!

I had to practice a bit first, but once I got the hang of it, no problem to use. The cuts are clean, straight, precise, professional. Worth the investment, since I have saved hundreds by cutting my own mats for photos and artwork. I would suggest the Logan 2000 Push Style cutter to anyone with enough strength to cut something like an onion.

I just bought this at Aaron Bros. not from Amazon because I needed it today. I was skeptical that it would really work, but it does! Ok I admit that this was my first time ever trying to cut matting, so I had a few hiccups, mostly due to my T-square wasn't as long as my mat cut was. And my stuff kept slipping around. But it still turned out pretty amazing, with a neat bevel. I will definitely be doing more of my own matting. Saves tons of money!! I am going to order the cutting guide and cutting pad for the next round.

  • Easy Tear-Off Top-Binding

the price is great, the size is great and the paper is just okay. it's on the thinner side so not good for things like finger paints, water colors, etc., but our young artist prefers a pencil most the time and for that it is great. there were a time or two that a piece ripped while being used, but not often.

The paper is great for painting, markers, etc. The problem is that the sheets come off the pad seemingly by themselves, probably because of the size of the pad, which is larger than expected (but that's a good thing!). So what we do is detach one sheet and clip to my daughter's easel to use. If she wants to color, etc. we take a sheet off and put it on the table. Since the paper is so large it covers her little table almost completely and gives her more room to work with. All in all a great product!

The paper works great on both of my daughters easels. It isn't too thin and takes paint real well without tearing. It stood up to crayons well too.

muy delagadas las hojas, y venian todas sucias de la orilla, son mas economicas que las de Melissa and Doug, pero no son mejores. The papers came dirty, and they are so thin, not good for kids. Melissa and doug pad is more expensive but they are better for kids!

paper is definitely thin. but its a cheap pad to begin with. my son is 2 so he doesn't care and goes through paper fast so i'd rather not spend a lot of money

I needed to have a portable table to work with children in homes and schools and find this one to be a good product for the money. I like that it is washable and light-weight, easy to set-up and colorful. It would certainly be good to use in various places around the home (couch/soft seat/ on floor with back support, etc.)for children who are smaller and need a quick way to set up to do artwork or paperwork. The soft surface is great for cleaning, but you need to have a firm under-surface for some drawing and certainly for writing. I just use a piece of cardboard or a clipboard. I think you could possibly use it in the car, too. Again, Amazon had a better price than the stores,,even with the added shipping charge.
