I bought this as a starting point for learning oils. And while the kit got me going, I quickly learned enough about oil supplies to where if I could do it all again, I may have chosen differently. The paints come in 12ml tubes(1/3 of the size of standard studio tubs) and in my experience were much drier than other oils I have purchased which made them alot harder to work with. I've also since changed out the palette, palette knife(the included plastic is bad) and many of the brushes. The included easel is VERY nice as is the tote.All in all, if you are looking to try oils, I think this is a great starting point at a good price(just get some linseed oil for the paints). Just expect to want to swap some stuff out as you go along.

Recently, after enjoying an afternoon at a local art museum my husband and I suggested to each other it would be fun to try to paint a picture ourselves! With a wedding anniversary and a trip to New England just a couple of weeks away I decided this would a great gift to "us".Two sets were ordered and sent Free Shipping through Amazon.com. They arrived via FedEx four days later.
Inside the packing box were two nice boxes containing our art sets. The tote bag is made well enough with plenty of room for additional materials and comes with a strap to carry it over your shoulder. The adjustable table easel is very nice, not cheap pine, but a heavier wood with a grain. I don't know much about brushes or paints, but for us beginners I think they will be adequate. A wood palette, a board canvas and a stretch canvas were included.
I am pleased with this purchase, and at $39.95 it was a much better price than other sellers of the same item on Amazon. We will order more for gifts.
If the manufacturer could improve upon or add to this set I would suggest an outline of oil painting basics; a color mixing chart, and a charcoal pencil. There could also be a suggestion to separately purchase a small container of linseed oil and turpentine for mixing and cleaning.

Nice set for a beginner. I am not a beginner but I wanted a cheap travel easel and that's exactly what I got. The easel is great, and I love the tote that came with it. Only problem is the tote was already torn when I got it out of the box. Not to hard to sew back up though. Came with so much for the price. Like I said, a wonderful gift for a beginning artist. The palette is flimsy. But the brushes and paint isn't bad. Also, came with two small, but nice, canvas's. It lost a star for being cheap and torn when I got it. But you get what you pay for.
