I chose a 4 because this set is a very good beginner set, not perfect as a total set would include paints but I really like this is a set to be purchased along with paints for a beginner. I would recommend this set to anyone who is just starting out with painting. We purchased this as a birthday gift for our 9 year old and she found it very easy to use.
