I was searching for an easy to use, heavy enough, easily portable plein air easel. My first use was on a windy day next to the water. I had no problem with the easel blowing over and my canvases stayed firmly attached. What a pleasure. It was easy to raise and retract. Great buy!

I bought this to use at home and outdoors. It is sturdier than it looks in the pictures, so I added one of my own. I would definitely recommend this. However, I do not paint on VERY large canvases, but I think it would be fine. Easy to assemble and adjust. Great product. I just read the other reviews and am very surprised. This easel IS very sturdy and the parts work very well. The knobs are easily tightened and loosened...sorry you got a bad one, but mine is great.

Alvin Heritage Aluminum Watercolor Easel

I haven't started using the easel yet, but it looks like it will serve my needs. The instructions for putting it together are pretty clear and I was also able to take it apart again and fit it back in its nylon storage/carrying bag. There was one small part that was defective, but a call to the seller got me a replacement part in just a few days with no hassle, no fuss.

This is officially my first easel since my dad, an engineer, made one for me when I was 5 to divert my interest in painting the walls : ) After much research this model won out for the pastel & watercolor art I looked forward to working on, in limited space I might add. It is stable and has as many options for height, horizontal and vertical positions as you can come up with. It came quickly as promised with nice packaging, puts up and folds away easily. The travel case is an excellent feature, most anything can be added to the stablizer bar brush trey (area). For beginner artists, it would be great if those basics were offered on the same page. I love the horizontal position options and how high the legs telescope. I highly recommend Heritage Watercolor Easel for any kind of art, it does not bounce when applying bold strokes with pastels. I almost forgot the feature which originally put it ahead of the rest, it accommodates canvases up to 56 x 36", signage up to 69".

Art Alternatives Art Activity Easel

This is a nice, sturdy, all wood easel. It has a hidden paper roll which I did not know about when I ordered but was happy to discover. The rubber floor protection pieces on the legs also help keep it in place.

You need to disassemble it to fold it up for storage.

Overall, this is a very nice, practical easel which our grandchildren will enjoy for a long time. It is height adjustable and also can be used tabletop.

I like this easel. We received it as a gift. It was easy to put together. You don't *have* to put on the legs--the easel will stand on its own at floor height. However, if you don't put on the legs, you won't be able to hang the red bags for storage. Those are wonderful, by the way, to store EVERY piece of artsy stuff that my daughter owns! The tray that attaches to both sides of the easel is wonderful. The roll of paper is nice, and you can use both sides... :)

The chalkboard & whiteboard are NOT magnetic, which I think is kind of a bummer. Of course, the chalkboard is not super great quality, which is why I give the easel 4 stars.

Oh, and FYI, you will have to loosen a couple of screws to fold this up to store flat. No biggy, but FYI.

The easel is high end, and fabulous. I think the price is spectacular. It must be handled carefully, but it is a beautiful piece of artwork. I love the fact that this little studio can be transported to walking distance. The brushes and paints etc. fit perfectly into the drawer. This is a one time purchase for life. The tongue and groove fittings reminds me of antique furniture from yesteryear's. I highly recommend it. You will be pleased. I also recommend the book The complete oil painter by Brian Gorst. I use this easel to put a magnetic white board to teach my toddlers, is light weight, very easy to put together, you can make it adult hight of very low which is grreat for my kids so they can use it too!

It is not that sturdy.

But for the price, I think it is pretty darn good. I put a large white board on this and it holds up. I use the board to study and memorize concepts...which means, I am doing a lot of writing, and the easel has not tipped over. I like how small it shrinks down to, and the carrying / storage bag is a great bonus!

As far as easel paper goes, this stuff is durable. My daughter likes to slap loads of paint on one page, and it holds up remarkably well. It is easy to work with, sturdy without being too stiff, and fits the Melissa and Doug easel perfectly. So far, buying it here in bulk is the best bargain I've found. Yes, there are cheaper brands out there. However, having tried a couple, so far I haven't found any cheaper brands that hold up as well to the madness my daughter likes to dish out. It is also sometimes difficult to find in stores, which makes ordering online necessary for me.

I also use this for her finger painting. It holds up slightly less well than when used as intended, with paint brushes and against the whiteboard on the easel. However, it works as well as, if not better, than paper specifically labeled for finger painting. I really like that this paper is actually white, rather than off-white or another dusty color. It allows the paint to dry the correct color, which is important to my daughter.

I'm really happy with this product, and I recommend it. I also highly recommend buying it in bulk on here. It ends up being the same as getting a roll for free, which is wonderful.
