Darice 5-Piece Painting Knife Set

All in all, 3 stars for me, but it really depends on the task.

I use one of them for mixing epoxy and such, and I haven't had any issue as far as functionality is concerned. This should be an OK set for painting. If this is all I do with them, I would have given them 3.5 stars.

I also use these kind of things to work glue into narrow seams for repairing wooden musical instruments, which sometimes needs some force. For this purpose, this set is not up to the task. The blades are fine, the issue is the ferrule and the handle. 2 stars for this.

Here are some potential issues (see my picture):

1. Ferrules are not particularly tight and handle is made of some not-so-hard wood.

This means that, if you use these with some lateral force, you'll crack the handle. That already happened on me once.

This shouldn't be a problem for mixing paint, epoxy, putty etc. at all, though.

2. Compared with my pricier (probably $10 per piece) painting knives, these have rougher blade surface (they have some scratch marks).

I'm OK with this.

3. Edges of some blades had fine burrs.

I needed to pass the edge on a fine sand paper several times.

4. Handles of some of the knives were badly marked as if the worker screwed up when trying to fit the ferrule.

Doesn't affect the functionality.

I was worried about this set being flimsy, since I was not able to hold them in person before making my purchase, but on the contrary they are sturdy and perfect for doing the job. Love to paint with them!

I needed a specific size palette knife and ordered this set since it included the one required. When the set came, it was poorly packaged and instead of the five different palette knife shapes, two were the same. Fortunately the one I need was there, but beware if you are looking for all the styles, you may be surprised by what you get in the package. The quality control is not good although the knives themselves are OK.

I've only had these for a few days, so take this with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't recommend these for a serious artist. The metal is thick and not very well crafted. I've just started painting with knives and I was lucky enough to have two good ones to start with, but I needed some variety so I thought I'd try these.

I'm just not getting the quality of stroke that I was getting from my other knives.

Artist supplies tend to have a significant mark-up which is fine when purchasing a top of the line paint or canvas but who wants to spend more money on knives? I don't! Let's face it, they tend to wear out over time if for no other reason than the harsh chemical cleaners. I thought I'd give this a try just because of the price; the entire five pieces cost only a little more than one knife at my local art supply store. I was concerned over the quality it's more than adequate although nothing to get excited about.

Handles are wood and finished but little more. The metal is flexible but firm. I actually prefer a bit less flexibility but given the price, these suffice just fine. Easy to clean and work as intended. A very good option for those searching for value priced items without totally sacrificing all quality.

3.5"high Plastic Black Display Easel Stands - Package of 24

I bought these for displaying my collection of straight razors. It's perfect for this. It's cheap to buy and it should be. There is nothing to this product. It's a molded piece of plastic that you fold in two to get the crease you need to stand it upright. There is a small plastic strap that attaches the two halves together so it doesn't fall over. That's it. It's perfect for standing a straight razor partially upright. Be sure you measure before you order as this product is only suitable for small display items. Also be sure the item you want to display is reasonably flat or this will not work.

These really are very small, you're unable to hold up an 8 x 11 foamcore photograph. Probably works great for smaller items but is very lightweight and has a small footprint.

I've been pricing thumb boxes for awhile now, wanting one just for quick field sketches, that I don't have to carry the full size pochade and tripod with me. This is a very cool little box, perfect for table top(picnic tables work great!) or hand holding with the thumb hole.It holds 2 wet canvas boards and stores 4 more in the compartment under the sliding palette. I ordered the Thumbox from Amazon after seeing it on the Guerilla Painter web site. (They have since removed the picture.). What came was a much smaller product, too flat to even hold brushes within the box, assembly screws missing, then a pin missing, and not at all what the photo on the Guerilla Painter front page of their web site showed. After three separate messages to them to try to get the pieces that were supposed to be part of the order, I was told that my option might be to start over again and get another box for $150 plus $15 postage because she fund a demo she could send from her back room.

It was the worst online transaction I've ever had....I do not recommend Guerilla Painter products... too stressful for my life. I'm very disappointed.

Jack Richeson Lyptus Dulce Easel easel

I have used this easel for years in one of my two painting stations. Overall for the money it is a great little easel. It does have it's issues, but with a little help you can take this very inexpensive easel and make it great.

The good point is you can turn it into a weighted H easel very easily, by adding two large eye screws under the horizonal H on the frame and attaching them to the back of the canvas tray. You can than add a heavy line

with a barbell weight and have a easel that the canvas tray moves up and down. Otherwise the canvas tray and screw knob of the original design doesn't support large paintings, and falls with the weight.

I paint portraits and large canvases so that solved that problem.

The other issue is the holder at the top did not hold my canvases and after have a few large paintings fell off I started using those tiny bungies cords to wrap around the center mast and though the support crossbar

of my canvas. Another problem solved... you can now easily move it up and down without even need the little canvas holder at the top.

I then added four casters mounting a piece of wood to both foot pieces so now i can move my easel anywhere.

If you aren't handy and you do large painting you might not be happy with this easel. But on the other hand if you are willing to do some simple modifications you get a much better easel with a more compact size

that can do it all!

All for about $400 to $500.00 less than another easel that can do the same thing. I also use this to take to shows because it is much smaller than my other studio easel.

If this is a knock off of a more costly easel it is an excellent one. Contrary to the description, it came about 85-90% assembled. Basically, two screws for the supports and then you easily attach the upper and lower trays. Also, 4 simple foot protectors screw in the bottom. It took about 15 minutes. It is a sturdy, medium sized H frame easel. And the reddish tones are sweet to look at. Honestly, I like the coloring better than the original oak that costs way more. I have a canvas on it already!

Royal & Langnickel Essentials Sketching Pencil Set, 21-Piece

When I first started out doing art, I didn't care so much about quality. I just wanted pencils that did the trick.

Now that I am more experienced in the field, I have noticed that quality matters a lot.

The pencils in this package are very cheaply made. You may ask why this matters so much to a budding artist, or even an intermediate one. Well, you'll be sharpening pencils a lot in art and so you'll want a good sharpener and pencils that sharpen well. These pencils, however, do not sharpen well. You'll use a lot of your energy constantly trying to sharpen these things, when that energy should go towards honing your skills.

The white eraser is a bit too gummy like, a few uses and I already feel the structure beginning to weaken...

The sharpener is OK. But there are better ones (See my list below after review)

The only thing I liked about this kit were the charcoal sticks. I like to sharpen mine with sandpaper and these do produce nice dark tones.

The reason why I gave this product two stars is because, even though the greenhorn is apt to mow through tons of material just to get it right, I feel that higher quality art supplies will ease a lot of frustration the beginner will feel when they're first starting out in art. As the community knows, the hardest challenge in first learning art is learning how to see. The rest is just pencil mileage by application of knowledge from a teacher or textbook. And I feel that quality goes a long way in helping the beginner advance his or her skills.

If you want to REALLY get a good start at art (or good quality for continuing art), then I'd suggest the following:

For pencils, you can't go wrong with either Faber-castell or Staedlter. I myself use the Staedtler Mars Lumograph. You can find these in kits, containing various degrees (A good range for the beginner would generally be 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 7B and 8B. Pencils ending in H are harder and thus produce lighter tones while pencils ending in B are softer and produce darker tones.)

For erasers, I recommend the Staedlter White eraser (which is fairly cheap. Mine cost me about 2$ for a fairly good-sized stick). As for kneaded erasers, these are usually used to eraser thicker, heavier material like charcoal, but I recommend either Sanford or Prismacolor. Do not use any pink erasers for art, They leave a nasty pinkish residue on your paper and don't erase as good as the white (Infact, the only thing I ever use pink erasers for now is erasing stuff off of walls and desks.)

As for Sharpeners, you'll want one similar to the one included in this package, but bought from an art/ office supply store. The one included in the package was not as good as the metal one I picked up from Michael's for about two dollars. But if you REALLY want to get serious with it, I'd spend a bit more and get the KUM long-point sharpener. I use it almost exclusively and it is the best sharpener I've ever used. You can buy them here on Amazon or at any other art supply website (I've yet to see them sold in a store, unfortunately.) But it's a bit more expensive than your average sharpener (Mine was $10, shipping included). But it's well worth it, considering the fact that you save more wood and get to the point easier and faster.

Overall, don't get this kit; infact, don't get a "Kit," at all. Do a bit of research and get supplies separately. It's a bit more painstaking but in the end you're getting better quality products. You may save time and cash going for this product, but you'll be doing yourself, or that aspiring artist you know, a great disservice by giving them a poorly-made product.

I bought this Late october the 25th or 26th and it showed up as expected. Acually, the first day of the "3-5days" which was a great plus. So, about this product.. I bought this because i'm not a huge professional artist that spends hours drawing and making a living off of it. I like to sketch, draw and cartoon. and this set allows me to do that with multiple tools and pencils. I love the variety and quality of these pencils. Including charcoal not just in pencil but block also, along with graphite bars. really lets me control where things go. I really love the woodless pencil, even though it doesnt keep a good point, (for long) But, i know that in about a year or more i will come back and buy another one when this set gets all used up. Thanks for a great product. I am truely happy with this set.

While Amazon is selling this set for considerably less money than the local big box art stores in my area, it is not a complete set for what you need to follow along with Bob Ross and his videos. To paint almost any of Bob's paintings (including the one on the DVD in this kit) you will also need to purchase Prussian Blue, Dark Sienna, Yellow Ochre and Indian Yellow paints. In the instructional basics part of the DVD, Bob also recommends having a #3 fan brush, #6 filbert brush, 1" round brush and a #5 painting knife, none of which are included in the beginner kit. While you could definetly get started with the tools in the kit, I am very disappointed that all of the paint colors required to paint the picture in the lesson included are not in the kit, and I have to still go out and buy them.

Guerilla Field Tripod with Stone Bag to weight down the Tripod during use.

The Guerilla Tripod is a tripod similar to any you've used for photography. It has three telescoping legs, a rotating head manipulated by a handle that tightens for setting your angle, a bubble level built in, and interchangeable quick release attachment for your pochade, easel or watercolor board. In addition, there is a stone bag, a sort of hammock below suspended from the legs, where you can chuck a few weighty objects (stones, bricks) to keep the tripod stable in breezy outdoor conditions. The tripod comes in a sturdy bag with strap for carrying along as you hike to your painting site.

I don't particularly like painting outdoors, as Delaware usually enjoys a brisk breeze off the bay and if it's cold or humid, my paint doesn't dry well (I use watercolor.) Not to mention, I have to spend valuable painting time traveling to some location. What I usually do is photograph my subject and come back to my little studio. I use the tripod system in my studio to paint standing up--my preferred way to paint, and I love the way I can orient the tripod to suit what I am doing. I can move it around the studio to capture the best light. Someday, if I decide to take a workshop in some beautiful locale, or go on a vacation, I'm going to drag this along to make sure I can paint comfortably.

The Guerilla system has a lot of accessories for your particular medium; oil painters can choose a wooden pochade (cigar box) that holds paints, a telescoping easel, a box that has paint storage as well as wet canvas storage (necessary for plein air). There are watercolor boards--frames that stretches either a full, half or quarter sheet of watercolor paper and attach to the tripod, palette holders, palettes for watercolor, umbrella and brush box. You can pick the components you need whether you are a watercolorist, pastel artist or oil painter.

I use the tripod plus the watercolor board (half sheet, thinking of adding the quarter sheet frame.) If I ever decide to go out on one of my rare days off, I'll strongly consider an umbrella and palette holder.

This is a great system in or out of the studio and would be a must for the plein-air oil painter for sure. The tripod is extremely well made and well worth it when you set up the accessories that you need.

18 Fine Art Paint Brushes for Acrylic, Oil, Watercolors -Long Handles

This set is cheap, but I don't think it is worth it. After the first use, the paint on the handles started to come off. At every wash, the paint chips away. And one of the small brushes that is supposed to be pointy has split in the middle, so I cannot get a clean line. I think there are better value brushes out there than these.

Have used these a few times, for the price you can not beat this deal.No hairs fell out when using (like "cheap" brushes have happen) color spreads evenly with the paint.I'm buying more and keeping them handy.

Then when I started using them, I found them to be great quality for the amount I paid. A lot of inexpensive brushes shed hairs everywhere, but that hasn't been a problem so much with these. Loew-Cornell Wood Floor Easel, Stained

Beautiful easel, very easy to put together. It's near impossible to find something this nice (especially stained) in craft stores. It's easy to fold and I found that it's compact for the small area I use it in. Not recommended if you want to use it simply as a display piece. But for painting, I love it.

The chain on this easel is so short that the front of the easel is almost vertical, threatening to drop the art off the front and onto the floor. I had to lengthen the chain with a zip tie. The other problem is that the legs are so flimsy---even when the wingnuts joining the leg sections are tightened as tight as can be, the legs still bend at those joints. I wouldn't put more than a few pounds of not-very-special display items on this easel.

We bought this easel to hold a sign/photo board for our wedding. Assembly wasn't difficult, but it wasn't easy and overall the piece feels flimsy. It wouldn't stand on our hardwoods, even with the grips on the feet. It did serve it's purpose and was much cheaper than investing in a sturdy, hardy easel we'll never use again. All in all, great for one time use or light easel work.

Renoir Table Easel - Oiled Beechwood Finish

This is a really nice easel. I can use it at home and when I'm onsite. It's easy to carry, keeps a wet oil canvas protected and carries a lot of paint and brushes. I looked a long time for an easel and I'm not at all disappointed in this one that I ultimately choose. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a great tabletop easel.

I've just started oil painting a few months ago and I was looking for a good, durable table top easel that's also portable. I researched several different table top easels and ended up buying this Renoir.

I have been extremely happy with this easel. The storage drawer is quite roomy and I like the metal interior. There are adjustable metal dividers so one could tailor the partition/space to their liking. I've been able to store my long brushes, several tubes of paint and my plastic palette knives in the drawer.

The adjustable canvas holder has a groove in the horizontal bars that will hold the thin canvas panels in place. That was a nice surprise.

Tip: sInce I've been working with small 8x10 canvas panels, I ended up using some painter's tape (rolled) at the top part of my panel (back) to keep the panel from shifting while I was painting. Not a big issue with me. The canvas holder is adjustable to hold different size canvases and also adjusts at different angles. Being able to paint at slighly different angles is helpful.

When storing or taking this easel on travel, the easel is dropped back against the drawer and there's a lock in the upper corner to keep the easel from opening up. The drawer has a lock on each side to keep the drawer from opening.

I like the portability of this easel as I can basically take it wherever I want to paint. It's a great easel that is well built and very sturdy. I highly recommend this product.

Art Advantage 12-Inch by 50-feet Rice Paper Roll

This is advertised as 50 yards. When I got it the packaging says 50 feet. I didn't measure it but I assume it is 50 feet. I could have gotten 50 feet of a wider paper for less money. Otherwise the paper is fine.

I don't like it.....but this being of personal preferance. but for me i expected something differant,i think that may be my fault. i'm unsure. i needed to repair a spot on a sonji blind. and they were way differant papers. so it didnot work. But it is very nice paper for drawing & painting.

This is a handy light weight yet sturdy tabletop easel. I take it to my classes & use at home. Easy to use, stretch cord holds the canvas tightly. I set it on a rubbermaid type mat to keep from sliding. The stretch cord was frayed when I got it though but was able to fix the problem. I really like this easel.

We purchased these easels to use for large signs welcoming attendees to an event. They are slightly smaller than previous easels I have purchased but feel very stable and well made. They worked perfectly for our purposes. The ease of altering the level of the sign was great too its a screw rather than a spring which makes the exact location easier to achieve. Great product will purchase again if needed.

I have 3 of these for use at trade shows. They can be used as floor or tabletop easels. For tabletop use with a medium to large sign, just don't extend the legs. Only 4 stars because it is a bit flimsy. But the leg clamps work well and overall it works fine.

We did not use the easel often yet, but we were able to assemble it within a few minutes and it seems to be a very stable product which can hold canvas which is not too big. While not in use it can be set aside not taking too much space

What we did not realize by reading the description is that the easel was mainly made for people sitting on a high chair in front of it. If the center guide rail would have been made slightly longer, then that would have also allowed the canvas to be set high enough to stand while painting

this easel was very simple to assemble; as long as you read the instructions you'll be ok. the color and shape makes it look very elegant; so far it seems to hold a decent amount of weight.

I would definitely buy from these sellers again. I had some issues with the easel breaking. I though maybe it was a dud. However, the seller sent me a replacement easel within two weeks! Now that's what I call customer service!

Gosh, I just found out that this easel costs $80! It was a present for Christmas along with other painting stuff. I would never pay such a price!!! In fact, I prefer to paint on the floor and the easel has broken when I bumped it by accident, but I fixed it with glue. Anyway, I think this easel is way too expensive for what it is. I think you can find cheaper at Hobby Lobby or Michael's.

Liquitex Assorted 22-milliliter Basics Acrylic Paint, 24-Pack

This is a great little kit for experimenting with acrylics. However the size of the tube is entirely too small, so I would avoid buying these if you're an art student but rather invest in larger tubes of the colours you absolutely NEED instead.

-They're okay when extended with medium. You have to use a lot of them in the medium to not lose the colour. I recommend using a professional medium with them if you can afford it. I definitely noticed a difference when I used Liquitex gel mediums vs Golden or Winsor & Newton.

-The pigment load is okay, but will not look "vibrant". Some of the colours are noticeably brighter than others when mixed with medium (Pthalo blue looks great for example, whereas primary yellow tends to look flat)

-They don't hold up to the test of time well, the lightfastness is not great but definitely better than other student grade paints.

I recommend these for:

-New painter

-Experimentation with new techniques

-Children/teenagers who wish to start painting in acrylic (do not gift medium with this kit, wait to see how they feel about the paints first)

I do not recommend these for:

-Art students and hobbyist painters (you need way more paint than this so just buy the bigger tubes and save money)

-Paintings you intend to give as a gift (or keep)

-Paintings you intend to sell

-Anyone past "student" level as these are student grade paints.

22 milliliter is a bit small, but they are good paints, i already painted two pictures with them, easy to use, nice colors

This is a good acrylic set but not all the paints are full. for example, the white, had like a 1/4 air within the container. I guess for the price and variety it's not a bad trade off but it would have been epic if I got the entire white and switched off the air for the burnt sienna or something, maybe the "toxic waste green"

I purchased this item from Amazon a few days ago and when they came I found a couple of the sweeetest little easels that are just right for my ACEOs and other small paintings.I work on heavy watercolor paper and some very small wood panels. Not too much care in the manufacture. The top of one arm was split and the holes for the hinge peg were poorly drilled. Did not cost much, but would not use it. Also some of the saw ends were crooked.
