NATURAL WOOD TABLE EASEL-20" HIGH

One of the bolts that came with the easel was completely stripped out when it arrived. I was disappointed because I wanted to set it up and use it right away. I spent a few hours trying to find a replacement bolt at home improvement stores, but the size was odd and I could not find one. There was no phone number on the instruction sheet to call for replacement parts. My husband finally figured out a way to put it together that works, but is not pretty. It is a no frills easel and will do the job. Depending on the size of the canvas it does make a bulge if its wood frame does not rest on the easel. If the ledge can't be adjusted to make it fit, some kind of backing would need to be used.

A couple days later I found a very similar easel a few dollars cheaper at a chain craft store. Plus I had a coupon, so it was less than half the cost of this one and all the parts were okay. I am looking to buy 2 dozen of these easels for a classroom setting. I'll be buying the rest from the chain store one at a time as I get coupons.

Unfortunately, after 3 months of limited use, this easel did not hold up. They are very inexpensive for a reason.

Guerrilla Painter 5 by 7 Pocket Box Bag

I wonder if I am seeing a trend in merchandise that is ordered online. Recently I have ordered and received 2 items via internet that were defective in some slight way. I'm guessing that because it is such a pain to return an item thru the mail that many sellers are shipping out products that are just a *little* defective figuring that consumers will just live with them or fix them themselves.

This is the case with this, um, case from Guerrilla. One of the velcro pads on the side pocket never got sewed on. I'm sure it's just an oversight, but a rather obvious one that anyone would have noticed if you were examining it in a physical store. The case is great otherwise, but the defect is annoying. So, like many others out there, I'm going to fix it myself (pick up some velcro and sew it on). This must be the price we have to pay for the "convenience" of ordering online: we get merch that is good enough to not be worth the trouble to send back.

This paper is a great value; it is heavier and absorbs paints better with less warping than the Melissa and Doug brand of roll paper. It is more like butcher paper rather than typing paper. The 200 foot length lasts a long time as well.

I used this paper instead of the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Easel Paper. It holds paint well and has lots of paper per roll. Highly recommended. The shipping took a long time from 3rd party, but I'm spoiled with Prime.

This fits great on our daughter's Ikea easel. It is decent quality paper, and it is thick enough to turn around and use both sides when the roll is finished. I imagine it will last a while, though, as it is quite a bit of paper. Very reasonable price for the quality and amount.

I love this bag. Helps keep my supplies organized. I was having to get very creative when it came to transporting all my supplies with me. This bag lets me carry all my supplies in each of their spots as well as my laptop. Now this bad is designed more for the painter in mind, with plastic liners for wet brush heads, a pouch for long brushes as well as hanging pouch for shorter brushes. Two side pockets for bottles, spray cans, or other similar sized items. The straps for carrying can be used for carrying tubes. As a pencil, charcoal, and pastel artist, I've used the spaces for my own tools, and still have extra space. My laptop stores perfectly, and is well protected. Good thing since I wasn't paying attention and knocked the bad off my desk with it in it. No damage. I put my phone keys, knife, and few other items in one side pocket, and my can of fixitif in the other. My pencils I store in the interior removable hanging pouch, drawing pads and planner fit nicely, even with the laptop, and all my pastels are stored in the front pouches. I use the large paintbrush case for my laptop cord, and the front two half clear pockets for cables, cameras, and extra storage. I still have tons of space not used and when it's closed it doesn't feel really heavy. Great bag.

I had gotten a black one in hopes that it would hold everything I needed for class. My two books, a sketchbook, a lots of pens and brushes, but the bag itself is actually the majority of the weight I'm carrying, and it doesn't hold quite as much as it looks like it might because the hooks just aren't heavy-duty enough to handle what the bag itself can. The twisting nob will pop out from the hook and the metal latches that keep the hooks on break easily, mine is not the only one it has happened to here. I just think that, for the price, it could use a few make-overs. If you can modify the strap components to hole more weight, go for it! If not, look for a different bag.

...the shoulder strap didn't pull loose the first time I used it, the zipper pulls didn't turn sideways, and if the design didn't lead to a front heavy bag, causing it to not set up straight without futzing with it and causing the front of the bag to pull inward and downward.

That said, I am keeping it and will do a few modifications because overall I really like this bag. I think the zippers and hardware will wear out long before the bag parts do, but there is just something about it that makes me want to carry it. If you aren't willing to make a few sacrifices to have the organization that this bag offers, then I wouldn't buy it.

I doubt that I would buy it again, but it is here and I can't seem to send it back.

Best Halley Solid Oak Easel

This easel is much more than an easel. It has become a muse to me and I'm excited to share so many great features of this new addition to my family of easels in my studio. First, let me share with you the problem I was trying to solve.

I had four easels in my studio; one a frame, one h frame, one Julian portable/table top, and a small metal presentation easel. I work on gallery wrapped canvas from 9"x12" all the way up to 48"x60" or 72". To work on these large pieces my current easels were not large enough or strong enough. I did use the h frame but it wasn't quite right. So I ended up placing large nails around the frame to my utility closet door to hang the canvas. Very inconvenient. I also tried using my easels for applying gesso and varnish but they would run and it was difficult to get an even smooth layer. I also work in large wood panels that require a large sturdy easel.

This Best Halley Easel exceeded all of my expectations. Now I'm a very critical and demanding artist with little patience for poor quality or misleading information. So I spent weeks researching easels online at Amazon and in person at my local and favorite store, Blick Art Materials. And I got so much for money and I'll say that the $500+ dollars spent was not small but worth so much more.

Stands Out I looked at many products from $150 to $900 and this beat them all. Not only did I get stretch and sturdiness I have three products in one. For oil and acrylic and pastels and watercolor. It tilts forward backward and lays flat as a 36" high table. It is so easy to use adjust with ergonomics well thought out it was easy to put together and didn't need any tools. With only eight screws included and needed for assembly. A nit with the instructions is that the pictures need to better indicate the pieces and how they align. But that's the only and small issue.

For the strength and soundness and heft it takes up a small footprint in my studio and easily holds the six foot canvas that I'm working on right now! Plus the wood is quality and solid and oiled and smooth without splinters. All of the lines fit neatly and snuggly. And the wood is finished with oil and has a nice sheen. It is also a beautiful piece of furniture!

Small ammenities include a nice size shelf a the bottom of the easel proving that the designers did a nice job thinking about how to use the entire space of the product and not just a device to hold something. It's much more that a simple easel. It also has a nice sturdy and compact tray with a cup holder. I'm not much for these addons but it's nicely done and fits neatly into the design. However just remember that it needs to come off for larger canvas.

The ease of assembly was a very important feature for me. And as I said this came together in about 45 minutes to an hour and I AM DISABLED. I cannot thank Best products enough for this benefit in addition to all of the other easy to use features for a guys in my situation. I did look at other brands like American, and Blick but none came close to this Best Halley easel. They were either too flimsy or too small or hard to put together and more difficult to use. They weren't worth the money both the cheaper products and the more expensive brands.

It took me awhile to find this product and pull the trigger and I'm ecstatic that I did so because I have a new addition to my studio family of easels. Plus I can be proud to take this out with me to public displays of my working I public because it is a quality product and shows that I'm serious about what I do and have great tools to help me.

I love these brushes for little jobs around the house. In the past, I would try to find thick, fairly stiff-bristled brushes of this size in the arts & crafts stores or at the hardware store...never successfully. These brushes are very durable, just the right size for little touch-up jobs, and inexpensive enough (under a dollar each) that if you use an oil-based paint or glue, you can throw them away instead of worrying about cleaning them (although they are so nice, it's hard to do). They are perfect for detailed painting next to window panes or difficult to remove hardware. They work well for trying to get glue into cracks or hard-to-reach areas. So far, after multiple uses, the bristles are staying in nicely, and are fine enough that they don't leave brush marks. And the wooden handles are so beautiful, I actually like holding them.

Guerrilla Painter Soft-Clamp Umbrella Shoulder Bag

I did a search in Amazon for "beach umbrella bags" and this was recommended.

I did not pay attention to the SIZE of this bag. It is a perfectly good bag for a normal rain umbrella or the small umbrella you clip on to a beach chair but that is what it is.

I needed a new bag for the kind of beach umbrella that you stick into the sand and sit under. I was surprised that my search yielded something totally different.

So, the bag is fine. Just be sure you are actually interested in a pretty small bag.

I was actually looking for a shoulder bag to carry my over-sized rain umbrella; I hate having to busy my hands with holding the umbrella when not in use. This is the only thing I found, which, as I discovered, is not intended for this kind of umbrella. I had to cut a hole in one end to be able to fit my umbrella into the bag. My umbrella is longer than the bag (which I knew). The bag has a zipper that runs along the length. If you use this as a tote bag for a regular umbrella and you have a straight-handle umbrella that is short enough, you'll be able to fit it in this bag with no problem. If you have a curved handle, you either have to let the handle poke through the zipper or you'll have to cut a hole, depending on the length of your umbrella.

This bag might be perfect (and more multifunctional) if the zipper curved around one of the ends.

Royal Artist Acrylic Easel Art Set With Easy To Store Bag

I really love this contraption as it has plenty of storage in the drawer and, the drawer can be opened while the easel is in place. I noticed that some of these kinds of things have the storage behind the easel, which makes it more difficult to grab a tube of paint. I also like how the easel and the drawer both lock into place as it saves it from flopping open while moving it. I loved all of the stuff that came with it but, I took everything out of the tray in order to allow for more storage room in the drawer. I had other tubes of paint that needed to go into the drawer. However, if a person did not want to store more paint, there is really plenty with this set. I just happened to have more. I also like the idea of the canvas bag and apron that was included. Really a fantastic deal for the price and, this was a Mother's Day gift so I didn't even have to pay for it! Highly recommended for all kinds of levels of artists.

I have a stand up easel and was looking for something I could keep on a desk or on the floor. Asides from my older brushes, this is my most used investment. To be frank, I did not buy this for the contents within the drawer but rather for the drawer itself and the versatility and portability of the case. However, the paints, brushes and boards make a great starter kit. Although it looks like a full drawer in the picture, if you take everything out of the tray, you can still fit more small (60ml) paint tubes and other supplies. On top of everything it comes with a basic but nice storage bag that now hold all my watercolor and canvas pads!

For the low price I was questioning how sturdy it would be....but sturdy it is. The compartment opens easily, and fits enough tools for daily use and small on the go projects.

This product was not as expected. The bristles are very stiff and not workable. Some of heads fell of the handles the first time in use.

They are not a good product for acrylic paints as the brush does not load properly to alleviate the brittle brush strokes leaving lines in the end product.

These were purchased for students using art at a youth level 3-6th grade and unfortunately, although the price is good, the product would not with stand repeated use.

Darice Black Metal Floor Easel

This strong easel was discovered by one of my college students. He popped it up in one of our field trips and it is amazing. It is very sturdy and stable and has some respectable heft to it. It is strong and won't blow over or knock over easy. Made of steel and metal. It has an adjustable pad or canvas holder and can adjust to vertical or flat angle and everything in between. It is lightweight and easy to carry once collapsed. It makes a nice studio easel too but for light work, the neck adjusts up to 30-32 inch tall or so. It probably won't be advisable for overly heavy, large, or oversized canvases. It has two hangers on each of the front legs to hang a pencil bucket or rinse bucket if needed. The telescopic legs retract inside and are a cinch to drop out and tighten down in seconds. If you are a tall person like my student (6 feet tall and over) or if you are short like me, it still works perfectly because the height of the legs and pad/canvas holder can be vertically adjusted.

I am recommending this to all my students for their painting and drawing work out in the field!

My art professor and a fellow student purchased this easel and loved it, so they suggested it to me after I told them I was having issues with the one I had bough earlier. I would definitely suggest this easel to anyone looking for a quality but cheap portable easel. It is tall enough, stable enough, and heavy enough to work well for out door drawing or painting. It's also just light enough to make it easy for travel. The last easel I bought turned out to be too short for me. Being slightly over 6 feet can make finding a good portable easel seemingly difficult. This easel however adjusts really well and can go quite high with very simple adjustments that don't require you to basically take the whole thing apart. I wish it came with a carrying case though or something to make it easier to move it from place to place. My only real complaint about the easel though is that the welding isn't that good on the bolts that allow you to screw the legs into place. The first time I used it the pressure of the screw against the leg to hold it snapped the bolt right off after a few times of locking and unlocking the legs so I could fold it up and move. This was easily fixed with some welding glue, but really shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

However for the price it's a very minor issue that I think was probably an isolated incident. However to keep it from happening with the other legs and parts of the easel I used welding glue to reinforce them all, it was a real pain to not be able to use the easel for the rest of my trip at the zoo. (I am glad I'm writing this now though instead of back then, if I had written this review at the time I would have given it 1 star and been just ranting probably, it was rather upsetting at the time.)

I am very glad I bought this easel and only wish I had asked my teacher and classmates about portable easels the day I decided to look into getting one, would have saved me about $20. I still use this easel when I can and will sometimes bring it to class with me to avoid using some of the old, loose, and sometimes broken wooden easels. This is probably the single best piece of art equipment I've bought for a long time.

Ravenna Box Easel Bamboo by Art Alternatives

You know, this desktop art easel isn't half bad. I got it as a Christmas present for my niece and she loves it. The main selling points for me were the bamboo construction, built-in storage space and its ability to handle canvases up to 34 inches. While it's definitely not indestructible, I'm still hoping it'll last my niece through college (she's 14 now). We love the built-in storage drawer. With kids especially, it's really important for them to have a dedicated and convenient place for them to store their brushes, paints and paint knives. One small flaw that we both noticed was that the canvas arms catch on the wood frame when you retract them. You have to push the ends of the arms down for them to retract all the way. It's a small defect. For $44.95, which is what I paid, and Prime shipping I'd still recommend.

I have several easels but not a tabletop one. Luv it! It is just right for small to medium canvases and hold most of your tools and paints.

As far as easel paper goes, this stuff is durable. My daughter likes to slap loads of paint on one page, and it holds up remarkably well. It is easy to work with, sturdy without being too stiff, and fits the Melissa and Doug easel perfectly. So far, buying it here in bulk is the best bargain I've found. Yes, there are cheaper brands out there. However, having tried a couple, so far I haven't found any cheaper brands that hold up as well to the madness my daughter likes to dish out. It is also sometimes difficult to find in stores, which makes ordering online necessary for me.

I also use this for her finger painting. It holds up slightly less well than when used as intended, with paint brushes and against the whiteboard on the easel. However, it works as well as, if not better, than paper specifically labeled for finger painting. I really like that this paper is actually white, rather than off-white or another dusty color. It allows the paint to dry the correct color, which is important to my daughter.

I'm really happy with this product, and I recommend it. I also highly recommend buying it in bulk on here. It ends up being the same as getting a roll for free, which is wonderful.

With these, I can draw a picture and then use a little water to soften and blend the colors and get the effect of a painting. Everyone who gives them a try really enjoys the results. My only complaint is the lack of purple. There is pink, but no purple. I look forward to purchasing a larger set with more colors. The sturdy case flips back to make a stand which is a great feature.

I own two full sized easels but have wanted a table top model for working out on the porch during nice weather or for those odd projects here and there. After visiting a local art supply store, I was extremely disappointed by the selection and decided to shop online...something I rarely do for art supplies given the variability of products and how difficult it is to really determine quality.

Aluminum has the advantage of being lightweight but simply not comfortable when painting due to the instability. Others were solid but bulky without the ability to work on large items. This is a wonderful compromise it feels very much like a full sized (albeit much smaller) easel...very sturdy, incredibly simple to set-up and no worry about tipping over due to the heft. It does weigh considerably more than an aluminum easel but is still well within the feasibility of being portable if that is a consideration (although you won't want to lug it far).

It arrives mostly assembled two parts need to be attached which takes less than 2 minutes total and requires no tools. The range is surprisingly large for an easel of this size it will hold a significant sized canvase with ease. The dual supports provide ample bracing. I happened to find this on sale for just over 1/3 of the MSRP and consider it a total bargain given the overall quality.

There are a couple items I would change primarily, it does NOT contain a tray at the bottom which I really miss...it's one of those things I grow used to when working on a full sized easel and miss for storing paper towels etc in when working but of course, it's a quick work around. The other preference is for the bottom of the canvas to sink below the table setting which is not possible with this model...again, that is an individual preference that comes from working with full sized easel(s) that would require a totally different design.

All in all, this is very well built, solid, holds a suprisingly large canvas and feels a lot like working on a full sized easel. In fact, it's so convenient and nice, I'm contemplating getting rid of one of my older large easels and using this as a full-time second instead. The price I paid was less than $20 more than a cheapie aluminum tripod style that provides much less support or stability EXCEPTIONAL bargain.

Wanting to save myself the effort in building one, I decided to give this easel a try. For it's price ($56 USD), I almost feel I stole the thing! Came almost completely assembled in the box (was required to install bottom canvas support, turn top mast around, and install back support bolt), and was set up in a matter of minutes. Its rubber feet keep this easel from moving around.

However, there are a few problems with this easel, which I have noted, below:

1) Its water-based finish is very thin, and since my medium of choice is acrylic/gouache paints, I decided to lay on a coat of oil-based polyurethane over it;

2) Angle adjustment braces were installed a bit off-center, making alignment a tad difficult. But, because the hinges, though adequate, are thin enough, alignment of the two angle adjustment braces was feasible;

3) An end of the uppermost back brace was not sanded like the other pieces, leaving a splintery edge;

4) Front cross piece of the base is bowed, but does not impede adjusting the angle of the easel;

5) Both base cross pieces are shorter than the width of the assembled top frame, necessitating (at the factory) loosening the screws holding the base feet rails to allow the top frame to be lowered into the base frame when collapsing the easel for travel or storage. I've found this more than a little annoying;

6) There is no provision for painting on canvas boards (slot running the length of both upper and lower supports), and;

7) Absence of rubber pads at the ends of both upper and lower supports makes keeping a canvas from moving around while painting on it rather difficult. Had to install pads to keep canvas still during sessions.

Otherwise, given the time it would have taken me to make one, this easel, for the money, is still a good deal. Having a look at American Easels' web site, and seeing their suggest MSRP for the very same easel, there is no way I would pay their list price for a frame of this modest build quality. But, for what I paid for it on Amazon, I'm glad I went ahead and got one.

FINAL SAY: Good easel for the money I paid, but wouldn't pay a dollar more.

Most good quality easels are quite expensive. However for $60.00 this is perfect for my needs and is very sturdy. I would recommend this to both beginners and expert artists.
